History of Twinning: Part 11

D-Day 60th Anniversary

On April 16th, 2005, Vice Mayor Isabelle Patry-Santos from Deauville made a special presentation to the living WWII veterans of the Normandy Campaign.  A fourteen-member delegation from Deauville traveled to Lexington with Vice Mayor Patry-Santos for the festivities.  153 medals were presented to veterans.

During the ceremony, veterans who were not able to attend the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the liberation in Normandy received a medal that was caste to pay tribute to the gallant former U.S. military members who risked their lives in order to liberate Normandy on June 6, 1944.

A concert was performed by the 100th Division (IT) USAR and speakers included Lexington Mayor Teresa Ann Isaac and 6th District Congressman Ben Chandler.

Vice-Mayor Patry-Santos remarked: "I come to say thank you from Deauville, a little coastal town.  Thank you gentlemen for granting us our freedom.  We must all remember your sacrifice."
